Jordan Burris understands what it means to be a leader. As only a sophomore at Stockdale High School in California, Burris was looked upon to be the team leader. The 6’6’’ Burris took on the challenge, averaging 16 points and 7 rebounds per game. No stranger to being a leader, Burris has taken on a similar role for his summer hoops team. Already surprising many at recent tournaments, Burris is making a name for himself and getting recognition from his play. With his fast start, it seems the skilled sophomore is primed to have a successful summer season playing with the young and talented Team Chandler. Burris was part of a youth resurgence in the Bakersfield area of California along with several of his Team Chandler teammates including, Chris Brown, Jordan Gathers and Isaac Hamilton (the younger bother of Jordan Hamilton, one of the top prospects for the class of 2009) as they successfully helped their high school teams and established themselves as a group of youngsters to be be reckoned with. These young kids will all get their chance to break out on the national scene this summer at the GBOA West tournament in Los Angeles where they will be matched up against some of the top teams and player not only on the West coast but in the country. |

Andy Brown plays for one of the most recognized high school basketball programs in the state of California. Mater Dei High School is known for producing superstars and Andy Brown seems to be next in the long line of talented players to emerge from the Santa Ana school.
Playing along side all-star caliber players on Branch West, will be nothing new for Brown who played on Mater Dei’s team with the Wear twins, David and Travis and Duke freshman Taylor King. Even with a superstar roster Brown left his mark on his junior season averaging about 15 points and 7 rebounds per game.
Brown has gained sparked the interest of several schools around the state of California and as Rivals.com reports; he has also received some attention from University of Michigan coach John Beilein who attended several of his high school games this season. |

April 21, 2008 The New York Panthers has two dynamic players on the team that are being heavily recruited from high-major universities. Omari Lawrence, a junior shooting guard has offers from Arizona, Auburn, Clemson, Georgetown, Memphis, Pitt, St. John's and Xavier. Kevin Parrom, a 6'5" forward has offers from Clemson, Pitt, Rhode Island, Rutgers and St. John's. Lawrence and Parrom have been playing together since grammar school and it would be fun to see them continue to play together in the collegiate ranks. |

April 21, 2008 Omari Lawrence is coming off a big junior year and wants to continue on with his success this spring and summer, playing with the New York Panthers. Omari is one of New York City's top prospects in the talent-heavy Northeast. He helped his St. Ray's club shine on the national stage, and claims that his skill set has improved and he is hoping to continue to build the momentum he has going. Omari helped pilot the New York Panthers team to the Championship game of the Spring Fling last weekend, and although the club came up short for the title, he was happy with their performance. Omari Lawrence has received interest from Arizona, Memphis, Xavier, Pittsburgh, Clemson, Georgetown, Miami, and St. John's, and is definitely a player to watch in GBOA East. |

April 16, 2008 GBOA East’s Playaz organization seems to have a pipeline to the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Top prospect DeMarcus Cousins was the first to commit to the school back in February, with his Playaz teammate Tamir Jackson verbally committing on April 7. Both Playaz felt strongly about playing for coach Mike Davis and are looking forward to playing together and taking the Blazers to the next level. Jackson’s recent decision came after he was recruited by Arizona, Virginia Tech, Miami, St. John’s, Harvard, South Carolina, St. Joe’s, and URI, and made official visits to Miami and Maryland. Cousins made no official visits, but received offers from Indiana, Memphis and Missouri as well as UAB. |
